December 27, 2022 – January 4th, 2023
Take some time to settle into your accommodations for the next 3 nights while enjoying a bit of Ghanian hospitality. Just be sure to arrive well before 6pm if you’d like to attend our special welcome dinner event.
Prepare for your first night out on the town. We’ll start the evening with a unique welcome dinner. After our meal, you can choose to relax and rest up in preparation for the following days or you can venture out with us to check out some local bars and nightclubs in town.
Get ready to visit some of Accra’s most notable monuments. We’ll be checking out Independence Square, Kwame Nkrumah Monument, W.E.B. Du Bois Center, and touring the historic Jamestown district. We’ll also do some shopping for beautiful Ankara fabrics.
Now, it’s time to head back to our hotel to meet our seamstress before dinner. They’ll have your fab outfits ready for our farewell dinner.
After dinner, we’ll hit up Accra’s famed nightlife with a special experience at one of the city’s best nightspots.
In the morning we’ll head to a local manufacturer, and learn about traditional Ghanian bead jewelry. Then you’re free to explore Accra at your own pace.
By evening, we’ll regroup for a nice dinner, and after that, you’re free to do you. That means you can turn it in or go out and turn up.
We’re headed to the airport to catch a morning flight to Kumasi. After some freshening up, we’re heading to Manhyia Palace, the home of the Ashanti King, and we’ll be starting our journey through the history and culture of the Ashanti people.
Get ready to celebrate local fashion and art in the afternoon with a fabulous private fashion show by Ghanian designers while having dinner. Here you’ll also enjoy live music, local food, and drinks, and make some new friends.
We continue our journey through Ashanti history by visiting traditional villages. Today you’ll see how the Asante weave Kente and Adinkra cloth, create wood carvings, and more. We’ll even visit a local cocoa farm.
We’ll experience Kumasi nightlife at its best! It will be lit, but that’s all we’ll say for now.
This is the moment you’ve been waiting for as we’re headed to Elmina. It could be a little emotional as we stop at Assin Manso, to see where the enslaved Africans took their final baths before boarding the ships. After that we head to Cape Castle where we’ll see the “Door of No Return”.
After a mind-opening tour, we’ll check in at a beautiful beachfront hotel for dinner and enjoy the pool and bar. If you’re up to it, we can check out one of the nightspots in town.
We’ll take the morning to visit a traditional village for your African naming ceremony. Then, we’re off for an action-packed afternoon at West Africa’s highest rainforest canopy walkway at Kakum National Park.
Time to celebrate you all receiving your true African names at a Black Travel Fest-style beach party, with a bonfire, great eats, and Afrobeats.
Enjoy a relaxed morning on the beach, reflecting on your amazing journey. Later we’ll head to Anomabo Beach Resort for a fresh oceanside lunch. If time permits, more shopping in Accra!
After one last dinner with newfound friends, depart back home (you should plan for an evening flight out of Accra).

We’d absolutely love to have you! But, if your ideal vacation involves a lot of relaxation on the beach daily and sleeping in this experience is not for you. Although, we will be seeing and doing it all during our time in Ghana, so if you are looking for a slow paced trip this is likely not your jam.
We recommend that you purchase travel insurance after booking your reservation. If you have questions regarding trip insurance coverage, you may contact Cici Chandler at [email protected]. If you’re living outside of the United States, contact your local travel agent to purchase travel insurance for the festival.
You’ll receive a detailed seasonal packing list in time to grab everything you need for the trip.
Sure, you can reach out to Cici Chandler at [email protected], and she’ll be happy to assist with your flight booking. There’s a fee of $30 for her services.
There are a limited number of flights to Ghana, so we’ll all be traveling on 1 of 3 options. Before the trip, we will be scheduling getting-to-know online mixers with everyone who signed up. You all get the chance to arrange flights if you want to travel to and from Ghana together.
To get the most of the activities, arrive before 6 PM on December 4th depart on the evening of December 11th.
Upgrade requests may be made by emailing [email protected]. Upgrades will be accommodated on a per reservation basis, and you will need your roommate to also agree to upgrade or accept entry into the roomie matching program.
Downgrades are prohibited. No Downgrade request will be taken.
Rooms with double occupancy may have a shared king or queen bed, though this won’t be frequent.
For security purposes we only share accommodations with the folks that sign up to join us. That said, the pictures featured in the booking section of the webpage are from the actual hotels that we’ll be staying in. If it helps every accommodation selected is personally inspected by someone from our team prior to the trip. We typically aim for 4 star accommodations and better.
The double occupancy package is for two people in one room with one or two beds depending on preferences and availability. If you select this package both you and your roommate would need to make the purchase separately. If you are looking to be matched with a roommate you can simply purchase the double occupancy package, and we’ll take it from there.
This package is for folks who are sharing finances and would like to make one monthly payment instead of paying and registering separately. This option is most frequently used by our couples and family members traveling together.
All payments are non-refundable, but may be transferred to another traveler for a fee of $75. Cancel for any reason trip insurance can help if you have a need to cancel unexpectedly.
If you have questions regarding trip insurance coverage, please contact Cici Chandler, travel agent with Mahogany Fly International ([email protected]). If you live outside of the United States, please contact your local travel agent to purchase travel insurance for the festival.
Name changes are permitted for $75 per person. Name Changes are not permitted for Roomie Matching Program. Name changes can only be made with people not currently booked for the festival. The person taking your place needs to register with a staff member at Amola Enterprises, LLC and provide their credit card information. You must work out the money already paid between yourselves. The person taking your place pays the remaining balance to Amola Enterprises, LLC.
Name changes can be completed up to 2 weeks prior to the Festival. No name changes will be made after the deadline.
Please see the Terms and Conditions for additional information regarding name changes and transferability.
Please refer to the inclusions section located on this page
Payments are processed through PayPal. As such all major credit cards are accepted (i.e., Visa, Mastercard, AmericanExpress, Discover)
Once you’ve made a payment you’ll be redirected to an online registration form. Following completion of the form, you’ll receive an email confirmation of your registration. You’ll also receive a detailed information pack prior to the start of your trip.
All payments must be completed by November 15th, 2021.
If you do not make your payment deadline you will have 3 additional days to pay in full, and a late payment fee of $75 will be assessed thereafter.
You will have two options if you’ve booked double occupancy and your roommate fails to complete payment.
1. You can upgrade to the next package within your selected accommodation style. For example if you have selected a hotel double occupancy package, you can upgrade to the single occupancy package for $500. The same applies for the villa packages. 2. You can find a replacement roommate and set up the replacement arrangements with your current roommate. If this happens your replacement will need to pay your former roommate directly for any portion already paid to Black Travel Fest, and pay the remaining balance directly to Black Travel Fest.
You can pay for the entire balance of your trip by selecting the “One Time Payment” option.
All are welcome at the Black Travel Fest. Just be sure to come prepared to have a good time and do it for “the” culture.
Sure. You are welcome to arrive before the trip and stay after if you like. Just note that the package only covers 12/4 through 12/11, and airport transfers outside of these dates will not be offered.
If you’re unable to attend all the scheduled days that’s okay, but we’d love to see you enjoying all of the events.
Registration typically closes 6 weeks after the trip opens, though it may close sooner or later depending on how quickly the packages sell out.
You’ll have the opportunity to list your roommate and travel partners in the registration form. We also have an additional step to collect this information as the trip gets closer.
Unfortunately, we do not have an activities & events only package as we negotiate a set number of spots with our vendors.
Should travel to the destination become impossible, the trip will be rescheduled to a date 6 to 12 months in the future. For example, if the trip is scheduled for December 2021 it may be rescheduled to June 2022 up to December 2022.
